The complete guide for properly using CBD oil so you feel your best.
CBD use has exploded over the past couple of years due in part to the legalization of hemp in the Farm Bill of 2018. And as such, many people are wondering what CBD is, what effects it has, as well how they can incorporate it into their daily wellness routine.
To make matters slightly more confusing, CBD interacts with everyone on an individual level and everyone has different preferences on how they like to consume their CBD. Which means, there are several different methods for consuming CBD that interact with your body in different ways.
The wide selection in CBD consumption methods is a good thing. But, it has left many people confused on how much CBD they should take, if they can add CBD into their daily wellness routine, as well as how to even use the different forms of CBD.
In this article, we’ll walk you through the 3 most popular forms of consuming CBD in softgel capsules, drops, and vapes. Feel free to bookmark this post and refer back to it frequently — we’re always adding new content!
Getting Started with CBD
Many newbies who want to try CBD are completely overwhelmed by all the choices. So, they delay their decision and many times don’t even experiment with CBD because they’re so overwhelmed.
And who could blame them?
Not only are there a variety of CBD consumption methods, but there’s also a lot of confusion around the specific type of CBD (full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or isolate). Not to mention that CBD is often confused with THC — the main active ingredient found in marijuana responsible for feelings of euphoria, or getting “high.”
Since CBD often creates unique experiences for each user, certain lifestyles and life situations may call for one method over another.
Each consumption method has its pros and cons. So at the end of the day, it comes down to your unique preferences.
In this article, we’ll explain how to use each of the 3 most popular CBD consumption methods as well as give you the preferred setting for each.
Alright, let’s get into it…
How to add CBD to your daily wellness routine
CBD offers a host of benefits that can improve your wellbeing, which means many people consider it an important step in their overall wellness routine.
Here are the top 5 ways every day users use their CBD:
- Add it to your morning routine with any other vitamins and supplements you take
- 30-60 minutes before bed to promote a better, more relaxed sleep
- Directly after working out to aid in the recovery process
- Ad it to your morning smoothies or protein shakes
- Use it throughout the day, for near instant relief (typically by using CBD drops or vaping CBD)
How to take softgel capsules
CBD softgel capsules are one of the easiest and most discreet ways to take CBD. Because of this, they are by far the favorite CBD consumption method for older adults (though many young people love them too).
It’s easy to either add your CBD softgel capsules to your daily vitamin case or slip in your purse before you leave your house for the day.
And, they’re one of the most reliable ways to dose CBD — meaning, you always know exactly how much CBD you’re consuming (which isn’t always the case when you use CBD drops or vape your CBD).
But, CBD softgel capsules also take the longest amount of time to “kick in.” This is because your body needs to digest them in order for you to feel the effects. And it’s possible your body doesn’t absorb the CBD as well as other methods.
Here’s a chart that explains all of the pros and cons of CBD softgel capsules:
|Longest lasting – Can last up to 8 hours||Not as potent as other methods|
|Higher absorption rate than tablets or capsules||Harder to control dosage|
|Discreet – easy to take with daily vitamins and supplements||Needs metabolized by liver so takes longer to kick in|
How to use tinctures/oil drops
CBD drops are another fan favorite way to consume CBD because they’re quick, easy, and effective. While CBD drops and tinctures aren’t quite as discreet as CBD softgel capsules, they are still pretty discreet — especially if you get creative about how you incorporate CBD drops into your daily life.
It’s easy to add them to your breakfast smoothies, protein shakes, or any other beverage you drink every day. (You could even add it to your food if you want!)
However, most people will simply drop them under their tongue, hold it for 20-30 seconds or longer, then swallow it.
Unlike CBD softgel capsules, you feel the effects of CBD drops and tinctures almost immediately. After about 15 minutes, you can feel the full effects of CBD drops and tinctures.
While CBD drops aren’t nearly as reliable in terms of dosage as CBD softgel capsules, they do offer more flexibility for experimentation purposes because you’re more in control of how much CBD you consume.
At Farmacy Bliss, each full dropper represents about 50 mg of CBD — making it our most potent way to consume CBD.
We recommend starting with 1 half dropper or less (about 25 mg) for newbies and gradually working your way up, as needed.
Here’s a chart that explains all of the pros and cons of CBD drops and tinctures:
|Fast acting – faster than capsules, not as fast as vapes||Some don’t like the taste/texture of CBD drops|
|Easily control dosage||Not as convenient or subtle as other methods|
|Absorbed in bloodstream immediately|
|Can add to drinks|
How to vape CBD
Vaping CBD is another popular way to consume CBD mostly because it provides near-instantaneous relief. Vaping CBD is by far the fastest-acting method because CBD is absorbed directly into your blood through your lungs.
Vaping CBD isn’t as discreet as softgel capsules, but it’s still pretty discreet. It’s easy to take a couple of puffs from your vape pen, then continue whatever you were doing without an interruption.
Vaping CBD also offers as much or more flexibility when it comes to experimenting with different dosage levels than CBD drops. But the tradeoff is that it’s even harder to count your dosage level than it is with CBD drops and tinctures.
At Farmacy Bliss, our 350mg Melon Gum Flavor vape (which is delicious by the way!) contains about 250 puffs per pen.
We recommend taking up to 3 four-second puffs as needed.
Here’s a chart that explains all of the pros and cons of vaping CBD:
|Fastest acting||Doesn’t last as long as other methods|
|Easily control dosage||Vaping CBD too hot can cause health issues|
|Provides on-the-go relief||Possibly addictive – CBD is not addictive but the act of vaping can be addictive|
|Most bang for your buck – you absorb more CBD with less|
